Highland Auld Asheville Vintage Ale

Highland Brewing Company
Auld Asheville Vintage Ale
15th Anniversary Ale
9.5% ABV

We couldn’t come to a consensus about how to describe the many unsavory features of this beer. In order to figure out what is so deeply wrong with it, we ended up drinking the entire bottle.

The flavor profile is similar to a fermented barrel of Coca-cola and Nu-Grape, with long, lingering burnt sugar notes. Failed peanut brittle might taste like this? Even the color reminds one of Mezzo Mix.

The soda-like qualities are countered with an aggressive and pointlessly bitter spiciness.  This follows with an annoying aftertaste that sticks to the tongue like powdered cinnamon.

Just a wee bit gross.

  1. How does this rank with Cum-Slam? or 4th Dementia of the Heart?
