Jolly Pumpkin’s Vicious

Jolly Pumpkin has “hopped” on the American Wheat bandwagon by turning out a super-hoppy wheat beer, just in time for the warmer weather.

We’ve already reviewed a couple of beers in this new style: Three Floyd’s Gumball Head, and Brooklyn-Scheider Hopfen-Weisse. This beer had neither the pizzazz of the Hopfen-Weisse, nor the subtlety and balance of the Gumball Head. Mostly, it just seemed amateur. Way to lower the bar, JP!

Thick dregs of hop sediment at the bottom reminded me of my own bad home-brewing attempts, when I suck up too much hop sediment by letting my siphon touch the bottom of the carboy. If this had been the first beer of this style I’d tried, perhaps I would have been more excited. As it was, I felt really let down.
