Short’s Nicie Spicie

12 oz. bottle into tulip glass

Lemon dominates. Green peppercorns nibble nimbly on the tongue in between sips, but do not upset the gentle wheat veneer. This is a beer I could imagine swilling in huge quantities at a racetrack, cockfight, pre-BBQ, or mountain-top pool party. If you have a friend who is allergic to prosecco, hand them a glass of this instead.

Somehow this beer manages to do a U-turn at Sour Street and ends up on Savory Boulevard. I would love to see a Nicie Spicie done with Belgian yeasts, since the American style is a bit too clean and sharp.

It doesn’t seem accidental that “Short’s Brewing Nicie Spicie” is really an anagram of “Hipbone criticises swinger”.  With some gnarly Belgian yeasts onboard, the hipbone might s(w)ing a different tune.

  1. Have the zytha bibitōrēs who write for this site exhausted Shorts’s menu yet? They should let you fine folks design a beer brewed with the contents of your refrigeratr or something.

    • There are still dozens of Short’s beers we haven’t tried. Also, there are a few I’ve tasted but haven’t reviewed (for example, “Good Humans Double Brown Ale” and “Noble Chaos Oktoberfest”).
