Avery Seventeen

Avery Brewing, Boulder, Colorado
Seventeen
Dry-hopped black lager
7.69% ABV
on draught

This is the year for Anniversary Ales! Stone is 14, Bell’s is 25, Sierra Nevada is 30, and Avery is 17! Birthdays need not be round numbers to earn a celebratory brew. While cleaning out my backpack last week, I stumbled upon crumpled up two month-old tasting notes of Avery’s “Seventeen” from my own 27th birthday back in August. My almost legible notes give a pretty good impression. In particular, I can deduce from them that, as usual, this Avery beer was anything but boring:

*creamy butter
*savory?
*anise?
*bubblegum
*grape
*pond scum
*peach fruit leather
*spiced plum
*sassafras and some other roots
*very sweet
